The goal of the current proposal is to develop materials with macroscopic dimensions but with a perfectly organized nano-structured morphology of conductive polymer nanotubes providing a huge effective internal surface. This will be used to develop the next generation of radiation and particle detectors with unpreceded performance in terms of efficiency and spatial and time resolution. The strategy of the project is based on employing highly ordered nanoporous Anodized Aluminium Oxide membranes as nano-templates to fabricate, by solvent casting, polymer nanotubes using conjugated polymers. The structure/properties relationship that links the structural organization of matter at the nanoscale to the global macroscopic performance will be systematically investigated, with the aim of optimizing the geometrical confinement and the nanotubes morphology that lead to the best detection efficiency. The final goal is to validate our concept by developing a practical demonstrator.
